I have been continuing to use ZooBurst this week in our literacy lessons. Our class has started a project to build a book about animals that we can take to other classrooms and share. The ideas is to work with the younger grades to chorus read to develop reading fluency. We also will have a science connection was we study animals and their habitat. Students are working in pairs, finding resources, and putting together interesting facts about an animal they have chosen. Each group will be responsiable for creating a page of the book sharing their learning.
ZooBurst is a great web site that allows student to explore their creative side while still allowing you to develop their fluency. And while their free service is great the commercial product is not so expensive that out side the realm of use. I see they are also working on a school license that would even cost less.
ReplyDeleteI went out to ZooBurst; what a great site. I viewed several creations from the Gallery. This site would work well across the curriculum. I like the idea of promoting reading fluency. Also, your students will get a lot out of the service project part of it, too.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea that students are creating one page to the book. It makes for a collaborative effort by all involved. What a neat way to use Digital Storytelling.
ReplyDeleteI went to ZooBurst tonight too. Looks like it could be a great tool for digital storytelling. I am going to set my middle school son onto it to see what he creates over the break. Then I can down size it for the kindergarten students. Looking forward to the opportunity to watch them create.
